I would LOVE to send this to my evangelical cousin, but I'm SURE that she'd accuse me of trying to destroy her faith like she did when I asked her if she ever took an objective look at her faith.
It's a hard message for the church to hear. I remember when I was steeped in it, I would've pushed back the same as your cousin. I was too blind in my dissonance to be objective.
She's too INDOCTRINATED / PROGRAMMED to change, AND she's 25 years younger than I am. Evangelicals can be found in other countries, I am acquainted with a Canadian of the Evangelical bent, but most of them are intellectually flexible. NOT HERE in the good ol US of A where the Evangelicals think that Trump is the SECOND COMING / a new Messiah. It'd be laughable if it wasn't so PATHETIC. Are they going to have CROSSES with a fat little Trump & his stomach on them ? GAH.
The brainwashing is SO deep. I have compassion for her because I remember. It's truly like living in a cult. The women buy the messages hook, line, and sinker. I avoided calling it a cult for a long time but, now 2 years out, I can call a spade a spade. Group think keeps people blind. It's bad.
Trying that with my cousin is like playing with Nitro glycerin. NOBODY WINS. American Christians are sheep where critical thinking is discouraged. I have still ANOTHER COUSIN belonging to a church that might as well be a cult. My cousin here sees the 50s as a cultural golden age.
The only reason I woke up to it was because of personal crisis that crumbled my worldview. It was a true awakening and I know it's happening all over. I would've never been convinced from an outsider because we were trained to see anyone out of the church as tempters from satan to deceive and distract.

A sweet irony that a relative would see a potbellied 66-year-old disabled man, me, as an AGENT OF SATAN.
Oh my god! This is so powerful Katie. Clearly shows Trump is not an isolated. There are Trumps everywhere.
Everywhere, Neera. Everywhere.
